Concurso de Canto Josep Palet Declares No First-Prize Winner, Announces 2nd & 3rd Place

The Concurso de Canto Josep Palet declared no winner for its 2024 edition.

The competition ruled that no singer would take home first prize but awarded soprano Rocío Faus with second place. Meanwhile, there was a tie for third place between mezzo-soprano Emma Robert and soprano Sara LaMesh.

Faus also took home the Premio Amigos de la Ópera de Sabadell and the Premio Espurnes Barroques. She received a 2,000 euro cash prize for her second place finish and will get a concert at the Cicle M’Clàssics de Martorell.

Roberts and LeMesh also took home the Premio Joan Cererols for the best interpreter of ancient music as well as the Premio Museo de la Música de Barcelona and the Audience Prize.

Of the other contestants, Iria Goti was given the Premio Victoria de los Ángeles and Premio Casa Elizalde, while César Arrieta got the Premio Academia Concertante and María Patak was the recipient of the Premio Amigos de la Música de Valls.

The prizes for best interpreter of Catalan music and for best Bel Canto interpreter were also left vacant.

The final rounds of the competition took place on March 2 and 3, 2024. The jury included María Bayo, Dolors Aldea, Zavier Sabata, Montserrat Faura, Miquel Ortega, Mirna Lacambra, Augusto techera, Alex Fernández, Leticia Martín, and Jordi Maddaleno.
