Concorso Voci Verdiane Città di Busseto Selects 123 Singers

The 59° Concorso Voci Verdiane Città di Busseto has announced that 123 singers will participate in the competition.

The event for young singers between 18 and 38 is presented in memory of Carlo Bergonzi. Organized by the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini and by the Teatro Regio di Parma, the 123 singers were selected from 275 applications from five continents and 28 different countries.

The artists were chosen following the auditions which took place according to the two methods. There were live auditions at the Competition venues in Italy and abroad (Volskoper Vienna, Sofia Opera and Ballet, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, Batumi State Music Centre, Fondazione Arturo Toscanini and Teatro Regio in Parma, Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Music in Milan, Teatro Massimo in Palermo). Thirty-eight singers will access the semi-final stage, while 85 candidates will take part in the preliminary phase.

The jury for the competition will be headed by bass Orlin Anastassov and will include Alberto Triola (Fondazione Arturo Toscanini), Luciano Messi (Fondazione Teatro Regio di Parma), Augusto Techera  (Teatro Colón – Buenos Aires), Jesús Iglesias Noriega (Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía), Plamen Kartaloff (Sofia Opera and Ballet), Alessandro Galoppini (Teatro alla Scala di Milano), and Stefano Nevicati (Presidente Onorario del Concorso).

The competition is set to take place between Sept. 8 and 15, 2023.
