Concerts At Saint Thomas Announces Its 2019-20 Season

Concerts at Saint Thomas has announced its 2019-20 season, which marks organist Jeremy Filsell’s first year as Music Director and the 100th anniversary of the Saint Thomas Choir School. For the purposes of this article, we will include only vocal performances.

Saint Thomas Choir School at 100” will celebrate the Choir School’s 100th anniversary with Rachmaninov’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini,” Op. 43, excerpts from T. Tertius Noble’s “Gloria Domini,” and Stephen Paulus’ “Prayers and Remembrances.” The Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys will be featured alongside Orchestra of St. Luke’s, led by Jeremy Filsell.

Performance Date: Nov. 7, 2019

The holiday performances of Handel’s “Messiah” will feature soprano Sherazade Panthaki, alto Roger Isaacs, tenor Rufus Muller, bass Jonathan Woody, and the Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys. Jeremy Filsell will conduct New York Baroque Incorporated.

The family-friendly holiday concert “A Ceremony of Carols” will feature harpist Sara Cutler and the Boys of the Saint Thomas Choir.

Performance Dates: Dec. 19, 2019

An Audience with the King Singers” marks the ensemble’s first time at Saint Thomas Church. They will present a versatile program “ranging from Orlandus Lassus to Stanley Glasser to Billy Joel.”

Performance Dates: Mar. 3, 2020

The Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys will perform alongside New York Baroque Incorporated once more during “C.P.E. Bach: Die letzten Leiden des Erlösers.” They will be joined by sopranos Rebecca Kellerman and Marguerite Krull, alto Roger Isaacs, tenor Rufus Muller, and bass Richard Giarusso. Jeremy Filsell will conduct.

Performance Date: Mar. 26, 2020

The Holy Monday concert “Couperin: Leçons de ténèbres” will be a chamber performance of François Couperin’s “intimate and delicate setting of Jeremiah’s Lamentation texts,” featuring sopranos Katelyn Aungst and Rebecca Kellerman alongside organist Jeremy Filsell and Amy Domingues (viola-da-gamba and continuo). This Meditation will be free of charge.

Keble College Choir will present “Keble College, Oxford at 150” as part of their Sesquicentennial Tour.

Performance Date: Apr. 16, 2020

During “Americana,” Concerts at Saint Thomas will present “some of the finest homegrown choral and organ music written in recent years.” The Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys will join the orchestra, led by Jeremy Filsell, for its last concert of the season. The program will include works by Paul Creston, Julian Wachner, Peter Hallock, Stephen Paulus, Calvin Hampton, Nico Muhly, Jake Runsted, Michael McCarthy, Josh Fishbein, Stephen Tharp, and Lee Hoiby.
