Conan O’Brien Addresses Timothée Chalamet Controversy at the Beginning of the Oscars

Conan O’Brien has shaded Timothée Chalamet at the Oscars following his controversial statements stating “No one cares” about opera.

In his opening monologue, he said, “Security is extremely tight tonight. I’m told there’s concern about attacks from both the opera and ballet community. They’re just mad you left out jazz.”

O’brien also made fun of Chalamet by introducing a new instrument, “The Bumdrum” to the orchestra, a play on a scene from the actor’s film “Marty Supreme.”

The controversy was also addressed by Kevin O’Leary, Chalamet’s co-star in “Marty Supreme” on the red carpet. He said, “He’s a really great guy. His mother’s really nice. That whole thing about the opera — by the way, I just put $1,000 on Kalshi walking in here.”

He added, “He’s going to win, because I know the voting stopped long before that controversy happened…That kid is great kid. He took a bum rap on that. By the way, he gave a lot of promo to opera houses and ballet.”

The statement came after numerous celebrities shaded the actor on social media, including Nathan Lane, Steven Spielberg, Jack Schlossberg, Jamie Lee Curtis, Alec Baldwin, Diane Warren, Karl Sofia Gascon, Leslie Odom Jr., Charlie Puth, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Misty Copland, Juliette Binoche, Whoopi Goldberg, Patton Oswald, Jonathan Bailey, Sunny Hostin, and Doja Cat.

It also came after several Opera and Ballet companies released statements and even invited the famed actor to an opera and ballet performance.
