Composer Nicolas Lell Benavides to Premiere ‘Pepito’ Online
By David SalazarComposer Nicolas Lell Benavides and librettist Marella Martin Koch will showcase the online premiere of “Pepito” on April 3, 2020.
The duo will be joined by the original cast, which includes bass Samuel Weiser as Pepito, soprano Alexandra Nowakowski as Camila, tenor Joshua Blue as David, and mezzo-soprano Alexandra Christoforakis Dixon as Angie. The production was directed by Andrea Dorf McGray.
The stream will also include a behind-the-scenes recording by filmmaker Maggie Beidelman.
“Pepito” had its world premiere as part of the American Opera Initiative at Washington National Opera. It tells the story of a forgotten shelter dog who meets a young couple looking for the perfect addition to the family.
