By David Salazar

Composer Felix Jarrar has announced an immersive recital this August that will preview his fifth opera “Mother Goose.”

The composer of “Tabula Rasa” announced, via press release, that the recital, entitled “Queens Without Boundaries” would take place on August 19, 2018 at the Cornelia Street Café. The performance will kick off at 6 p.m.

The recital, which will feature contralto Allison Gish and baritone John Tibbetts will feature music from Jarrar’s upcoming “Mother Goose” as well as the world premiere of Jarrar’s “Songs of a Bygone Time.” There will also be selections from Gustav Mahler.

Per the press release, “Queens without boundaries not only serves as a tantalizing teaser of Jarrar’s Mother Goose – it’s a program which examines gender identity, queerness, and unabashed self-expression.”

In addition to “Tabula Rasa,” Jarrar has also adapted (alongside Brittany Goodwin) Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” into an opera as well as Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher.”
