Composer Felix Jarrar To Present ‘Yuletide in a Younger World’

Composer Felix Jarrar is set to present a holiday concert “Yuletide in a Younger World” on Dec. 8, 2019 at the Soapbox Gallery in Brooklyn, NY.

The concert, which commences at 7 p.m. local time, will feature soprano Maria Eleni Zollo, mezzo-soprano Eugenia Forteza, baritone Wayne Arthur Paul, and Jarrar at the piano.

The performance’s program will be made up of holiday music composed by Jarrar himself, including Toccata and Fugue on a theme of Mozart, excerpts from Jarrar and Bea Goodwin’s “A Christmas Carol,” “Yellow,” “Schliflieder,” “A Nocturne in Ulster County,” and “Bobbing for Apples.” Audiences will also hear the world premiere of “Betwixt Birth & Borders,” which features text by Goodwin and “Songs to Yuletide Season.”

Zollo has worked with such companies as the Brooklyn Metro Chamber Orchestra, Apotheosis Opera, the Mannes Opera, Martina Arroyo’s Prelude to Performance, Hunter Opera, Savannah Voice Festival, and the Lidal North International Opera Workshop at the Oslo Opera House, among others.

Forteza has appeared with such companies as Bare Opera, Eurasia Festival, Teatro Grattacielo, Magna Lírica, Una Voz un Mundo, the Festival d’Art Vocal Montréal, IVAI, Hudson Opera Theatre, St. John’s Concert Series, New Camerata Opera, and New Amsterdam Opera, among others. She has also appeared in the world premiere of Jarrar’s “A Christmas Carol,” and “Tabula Rasa.” She will appear in the world premiere of “Mother Goose.”

Paul was a featured soloist in Kathleen Battle’s ‘Underground railroad: A Spiritual Journey’ at the Metropolitan Opera House and also made his Met Opera debut as an ensemble member in “Porgy and Bess.” He has also appeared at the LA Opera, the National Sawdust, and Songfest, among others.
