Composer Felix Jarrar Announces Cafe Concert “Felix Jarrar & Friends”

By Logan Martell

On Wednesday, November 21, 2018, award-winning composer Felix Jarrar will be bringing a wide selection of his works for a concert at New York City’s Cornelia Street Café.

Titled “Felix Jarrar & Friends,” the concert will feature two arias from Jarrar’s upcoming comic opera, “Mother Goose.” Singing these arias will be soprano Eugenia Forteza and mezzo-soprano Inbal Milliger; Forteza and Milliger will originate the roles of Ugly Duckling and Oscar the Fox, respectively, when the opera premieres.

Other songs that will be heard at the concert include selections from Jarrar’s song cycle “Songs of a Bygone Time,” which will be performed by baritone Michael Kelly. From Jarrar’s recent jazz opera, “Tabula Rasa,” Eugenia Forteza will also perform the aria “Just as two hills.”

Past works of Jarrar’s include “Dickens’ A Christmas Carol,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” and the theatrical song cycle “Songs of the Soul Beams.” His upcoming opera, “Mother Goose,” is described as “an adaptation of an original story by Jarrar, about how Leonora Goosling, the innkeeper of the Mother Goose Inn and Suites, will stop at nothing to record her guest’s tales and get them their happy endings. She is renowned throughout the land of Happily Ever After for her tales, which have led her to become colloquially known as ‘Mother Goose’. Her latest quest becomes complicated when the evil witch, Gnat, seeks revenge.”

“Felix Jarrar & Friends” will take place at the Cornelia Street Café on November 21, 2018, at 6:00 pm.
