Colombia’s Teatro Julio Mario Santo Domingo, Centro Nacional de las Artes, & La Compañía Estable Announce Upcoming Productions

Several Colombian opera companies have announced their upcoming productions and projects at the 16th annual conference of Ópera Latinoaméricana.

The Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo has confirmed that it will present “La Vida es Sueño” by Juan Pablo Carreño and librettist Iván Olano Duque. This adaptation of the famed Calderón de la Barca work will be directed by Alejandro Chacón and conducted by Valentin Tournet.

The opera will open on July 21 and 22, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Centro Nacional de las Artes, a new cultural center that is comprised of the Teatro Colón among other organizations, will present “Bluebeard’s Castle” on Oct. 28-30, 2023.

La Compañía Estable will present “Le Nozze di Figaro” in a production by Pedro Salazar and conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada. Performances will take place on July 21 and 23 at the Teatro Metropolitano de Medellín.

Finally, the Ópera de Colombia will showcase “L’Elisir d’amore” at the Teatro Metropolitano de Medellín on Sept. 8 and 9, 2023. The production will be directed by filmmaker Sergio Cabrera and will feature Orquesta Filarmónica de Medellín – Filarmed and the el Coro Prolírica de Antioquia.
