By David Salazar

Colburn School will honor conductor James Conlon during its annual gala on April 7, 2024.

During the event, Conlon will receive the Richard D. Colburn Award for his “exemplary contributions to the world of classical music and arts.” The program will feature music by Mozart and features the Colburn Orchestra.

Conlon recently announced that he would be retiring from his position as the Music Director of the Los Angeles Opera and would continue as Conductor Laureate following the 2026 season.

“One of the greatest satisfactions has been working with the musicians of the LA Opera Orchestra. I am deeply grateful to them for their dedication, hard work and support. I am confident that they will be in very good hands with the next generation of leadership,” the conductor said at the time of the announcement.

Also honored during the gala is art philanthropist Merle Mullin.
