Cleveland Orchestra Cancels January Florida Concerts

By David Salazar

The Cleveland Orchestra has canceled its January Adrienne Arsht Center concerts and residency.

Among the performances canceled were the Jan. 28 and 29 concerts at Knight Concert Hall in Miami, Florida featuring soprano Latonia Moore.

Those concerts, which were set to be conducted by Franz Welser-Möst would have featured a performance of Walker’s “Lilacs” as well as symphonies by Dvorak and Mozart.

The education concerts scheduled for Jan. 20 and 27 were also annulled; those would have included music by Frank as well as Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf.” Among the other performances that were shut down were the Jan. 23 showcase at West Palm Beach featuring music by Mozart and Tchaikovsky, as well as another similar program on Jan. 24 at Naples, Florida and another set in Miami on Jan. 21 and 22.

All the performances were canceled due to concerns over the steady rise of COVID-19.
