
Clémentine Margaine, Constantin Trinks, Ian Bostridge, Lidia Fridman Headline Opéra de Lyon’s 2026-27 Season

The Opéra de Lyon has announced its 2026–2027 season.
Prokofiev’s “The Love for Three Oranges” will be conducted by Dmitry Matvienko in a new production directed by Laurent Pelly, with designs by Caroline Ginet. The cast includes Piotr Micinski, Lucie Roche, Damien Pass, Marc Mauillon, Gabrielle Philiponet, and Giulia Scopelliti.
Performance Dates: Oct. 4–20, 2026
Lecocq’s “Madame Angot’s Daughter” will be conducted by Karine Locatelli and Benedict Kearns and directed by Richard Brunel, with Hélène Guilmette, Pierre Derhet, and Matthieu Lécroart. The December 31 performance serves as the house’s New Year’s Eve opera.
Performance Dates: Dec. 14, 2026–Jan. 3, 2027
Diana Soh’s “Zylan Won’t Sing Anymore,” a monodrama directed by Richard Brunel and Valérie Marinese-Barboza with baritone Benoît Rameau, will be presented at the Théâtre du Point du Jour as part of the festival, and will also tour the region via the Opera Truck from February to April 2027.

Grieg’s “Peer Gynt” will be conducted by Bassem Akiki and directed by Angélique Clairand, with Jérémy Lopez of the Comédie-Française in the title role and Déborah Salazar as Solveig.
Performance Dates: Jan. 24– Feb. 3, 2027
Schubert’s “Winterreise” will be presented as a musical theatre piece directed by Deborah Warner, with tenor Ian Bostridge and pianist Julius Drake, at the Théâtre National Populaire in Villeurbanne.

Strauss’ “Salome” will open the “Make Your Voice Heard” festival in a new production directed by Calixto Bieito and conducted by Constantin Trinks, with Ambur Braid in the title role, Josef Wagner as Jokanaan, and Peter Hoare as Herod.
Performance Dates: March 19–April 4, 2027
Donizetti’s “Lucrezia Borgia” will be conducted by Jader Bignamini and directed by Tatjana Gürbaca, with Lidia Fridman in the title role, Duke Kim as Gennaro, and Giorgi Manoshvili as Alfonso d’Este.

Rimsky-Korsakov’s “May Night” will be conducted by Timur Zangiev and directed by Christof Loy, with Bogdan Volkov as Levko, Victoria Karkacheva as Hanna, and Olga Kulchynska as The Maiden.

Aboulker’s “Olympe the Rebel,” an opera about Olympe de Gouges for mezzo-soprano, baritone, teen choir and piano, will be conducted by Clément Brun and directed by Odile Grosset-Grange, with Marie Le Normand and Olivier Bizot, at the Théâtre Nouvelle Génération.

Concerts
Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection” will be conducted by Daniele Rustioni at the Nuits de Fourvière, with soprano Rosalia Cid and mezzo-soprano Kai Rüütel-Pajula and the Lyon Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
Performance Date: June 17, 2026
Filidei’s “Accabadora” will be performed at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, conducted by Lucie Leguay and directed by Valentina Carasco, with the Lyon Opera Orchestra.
Performance Dates: July 4–10, 2026
Verdi’s “Les Vêpres siciliennes” will be performed in concert version at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, conducted by Daniele Rustioni with the Lyon Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
Performance Date: July 16, 2026
In the fall, a concert will feature Wagner’s “Der fliegende Holländer” Overture and Prelude and Liebestod from “Tristan und Isolde,” alongside Bruckner’s Symphony No. 3, conducted by Daniele Rustioni and the Lyon Opera Orchestra.

A program of Mahler’s “Rückert-Lieder,” Beethoven’s “Egmont,” and Schumann’s Symphony No. 3 will be conducted by Vitali Alekseenok, with baritone Stéphane Degout and the Lyon Opera Orchestra.

Recitals
Mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine will give a recital of works by Saint-Saëns, Gounod, Offenbach, Massenet, Duparc, Ravel, Gershwin, and Weill, accompanied by pianist Sarah Margaine, as part of the Stellar Voices series.

Baritone Stefan Petković will give a solo recital as part of the Lyon Opera Studio series in the Amphi.

Tenor Iván Ayón-Rivas will give a recital of works by Bizet, Gounod, Massenet, Offenbach, Donizetti, Verdi, Sorozábal, and Tosti, accompanied by pianist Michele d’Elia, as part of the Stellar Voices series.

Tenor Cătălin Pop will give a solo recital as part of the Lyon Opera Studio series in the Amphi.

The chamber music “One Hour, One Concert” series at Salle Molière will feature six programs paired with composers from the season’s repertoire. Programs featuring vocal soloists include Around Edvard Grieg, with flute, bassoon, horn, double bass, marimba and voice; Around Richard Strauss, with string quartet, piano and voice; Around Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, with flute, clarinet, bassoon, horn and piano; and Around Schoenberg, with viola, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn and voice.

The Lyon Opera Ballet will tour internationally and throughout France with programs including Sharon Eyal’s “House,” Mats Ek’s “Rite of Spring,” Lucinda Childs’ “Dance,” Alessandro Sciarroni’s “HØPE,” Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s “Transfigured Night,” William Forsythe’s “Workwithinwork,” Katerina Andreou’s “WE NEED SILENCE,” and David Dawson’s “The Grey Area.” Tour stops include Shanghai, the Festival d’Automne at La Villette in Paris, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the South Bank Centre in London, the Concertgebouw in Bruges, the Lausanne Opera, the Rouen Opera, the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon, Culturgest in Lisbon, venues in Grenoble, Chambéry, Angers, Clermont-Ferrand, Cannes, Dijon, Caen, Reggio Emilia, Geneva, Toulon, and Marseille.
