Ludovic Tézier has canceled performances of Verdi’s “Otello” at the Bayerische Staatsoper.

The company announced on Sept. 16, prior to opening night, that the baritone would not be performing in a revival of Verdi’s masterpiece. As a result, Claudio Sgura replaced the baritone on opening and the following two performances scheduled for Sept. 24 and 28, 2019.

Sgura is also scheduled to perform the summer run of “Otello” alongside Roberto Alagna and Anja Harteros. He recently performed in Beijing and Verona and returns to China for “Il Trovatore” and  Roma for “Tosca.” He will also perform in Bilbao and Napoli this season.

“Otello” stars Jonas Kaufmann and Anja Harteros and is conducted Adam Fischer. The production by Amélie Niemeyer also stars Galeano Salas, Dean Powers, and Katarina Bradić.
