Classical Movements Announces Spring and Summer 2022 Secret Garden Concerts

Alexandria, Virginia-based Classical Movements has announced their spring and summer 2022 Secret Garden Concerts featuring several vocal performances ranging from art song to zarzuela.

For this article, our focus is on scheduled vocal performances. Here’s what’s in store for audiences.

Soprano Shana Oshiro, along with pianist Brian Bartoldus and cellist Jodi Beder, will present “Out of Eden: A Journey Through Art Song,” featuring music by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Massenet, Jake Heggie, Florence Price, and Jasmine Barnes in this concert of rarely performed songs.

Performance Date: March 31, 2022, at 5:00 and 6:30 p.m.

Opera and zarzuela come together in “From A to Z: Arias to Zarzuela,” a performance by Mexican soprano Judy Yannini with Artistic Director Timothy Nelson and pianist Emily Baltzer. The concert marks Yannini’s Secret Garden debut and is co-presented with IN Series.

Performance Date: April 14, 2022, at 5:00 and 6:30 p.m.

Chanteuse Myriam Phiro and her band Nuage Rhythm will present “The Golden Age of Gypsy Jazz,” featuring a program of jazz classics sung in French, English, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Performance Date: May 26, 2022, at 5:00 and 6:30 p.m.

The Prague Summer Nights Young Artists Music Program will present an immersive staging of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” as part of the Prague Summer Nights 2022 Washington D.C. Residency.
