By Francisco Salazar

The City Opera Vancouver has postponed an upcoming production.

The company announced that due to COVID-19 it was postponing the premiere of “Chinatown,” by the composer Alice Ping Yee Ho and librettist Madeleine Thien, from September 2021 to September 2022.

In a statement, the company said “Chinatown” is planned for its world premiere in September 2022, at the 668-seat Vancouver Playhouse. The evening will commence with a community dinner and a memorial parade to The Vancouver Playhouse. This special event will honor the elders and community leaders who have made Chinatown possible, unique, and essential, all these years.”

The City Opera Vancouver recently presented “The Human Voice” and “Perruqueries.” Both productions are currently streaming online on the company’s YouTube channel.
