From August 27 through 31, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra will presenting 20 free performances across Birmingham as part of its annual CBSO in the City initiative.

Tens of thousands of residents are expected to encounter the orchestra in locations ranging from New Street Station and the Bullring to Birmingham Botanical Gardens and the city’s Children’s Hospital.

Among those performances is a takeover of the New Street Station concourse by the CBSO and CBSO Chorus on August 28 as well as an August 30 community operatic performance, “Open for Business,” presented by Infinite Opera and Grand Union.

Residents who attend a CBSO in the City performance will have the opportunity to purchase a golden ticket which gives access to a CBSO concert of their choice in the 2026-27 season at Symphony Hall for £1.

“Music is for everyone and there should never be barriers to this. CBSO in the City fully opens up the world of orchestral music — removing all barriers, bringing people together and reminding us that music should ultimately be about having fun,” Emma Stenning, CBSO Chief Executive, said, per an official press release.
