By David Salazar

Cincinnati Opera is teaming up with the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music to present excerpts from the upcoming “ROBESON opera.”

The event, which is set for May 14, 2022, will be free to the public as part of the “Opera Fusion: New Works series.”

“ROBESON Opera” is a new work by Scott Davenport Richards and David Cote that explores the life of Black singer, actor, and activist Paul Robeson. Robeson became such an important person in the fight for equality that he became “entangled” in the struggle between the United States and USSR.

Richards and Cote are the creators of the 2019 opera “Blind Injustice.” CCM Professor Robin Guarino will be the dramaturg and stage director for this public performance which will be the culmination of a 10-day workshop process.
