Cincinnati Opera Announces New Dates for ‘Castor and Patience’

The Cincinnati Opera has announced new dates for the world premiere of “Castor and Patience.”

The company noted that performances at Cincinnati Opera have been pushed to July 21 – 30, 2022 at the Corbett Theater in Cincinnati.

The work was originally commissioned for Cincinnati Opera’s 100th anniversary in 2020 and postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The work was composed by Gregory Spears and written by Tracy K. Smith.

The opera will star soprano Talise Trevigne as Patience, and baritone Reginald Smith Jr. as Castor. They will be joined by a stellar supporting cast including mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano (Celeste), soprano Victoria Okafor (Willie), baritone Benjamin Taylor (West), tenor Frederick Ballentine (Judah), and soprano Raven McMillon (Ruthie). Soprano Amber Monroe, mezzo-soprano Zoie Reams, tenor Victor Ryan Robertson, baritone Phillip Bullock, and bass Earl Hazell round out the ensemble.

Kazem Abdullah conducts Kevin Newbury’s production.

“Castor and Patience” will run in alternation with Verdi’s “Aida,” which will star Mary Elizabeth Williams, Gregory Kunde, Tichina Vaughn, Gordon Hawkins, and Morris Robinson.
