Christophe Dumaux, Delphine Galou, Franco Fagioli Among Stars of Innsbruck Festival of Early Music 2020

The Innsbruck Festival of Early Music has announced its 2020 season, which features a wide range of early music in concert and opera. For the purposes of this article, we will focus solely on opera and vocal related program.

The season opens with Ferdinando Paër’s “Leonora,” which will be directed by Mariame Clément with musical direction by Alessandro de Marchi. The two-act opera will star Arianna Vendittelli, Marie Lys, Paolo Fanale, Carlo Allemano, Jeffrey Francis, Renato Girolami, and Luigi De Donato.

Performance Dates: August 7-11, 2020

 Melani’s “L’Empio Punito” will take the stage later in the festival with Theodora Raftis, Dioklea Hoxha, Anna Hybiner, Natalia Kukhar, Lorenzo Barbieri, and Andrew Munnstarring. Silvia Paoli directs with Mariangiola Martello conducting.

Performance Dates: August 21-24, 2020

Alicia Amo and Valerio Contaldo will star in Malvezzi’s “La Pellegrina,” which will be directed by Alessandra Premoli with Eduardo Egüez conducting. The Coro Voz Latina, NovoCanto, and La Chimera will also perform.

Concerts

Mezzo-soprano Ilektra Platiopoulou will performa alongside The Curious Bards and violinist Alix Boivert in “By Moonlight on the Green.”

Performance Date: August 8, 2020

Voces Suaves will perform “Jephte” with music direction from Johannes Keller.

Performance Date: August 10, 2020

Countertenor Franco Fagioli will present a concert “Cara sposa” with music by Vinci and Handel. Il pomo d’oro will perform under the musical direction of Zefira Valova.

Performance Date: August 12, 2020

A concert dedicated to the music of Beethoven, including his Mass in C Major will showcase Laura Aikin, Anke Vondung, Julian Prégardien, and Georg Nigl. Alessandro de Marchi conducts.

Performance Date: August 17, 2020

Mezzo-soprano Grace Durham wil perform a concert entitled “From Purcell with Love” with Christophe Rousset leading Les Talens Lyriques.

Performance Date: August 20, 2020

Contralto Delphine Galou will perform in “Vivaldi d’Amore” alongside the Accademia Bizantina.

Performance Date: August 22, 2020

Mezzo-soprano Marianne Beate Kielland and countertenor Christophe Dumaux will perform in Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater” alongside the Freiburger BarockConsort.

Performance Date: August 27, 2020

The festival will end with a concert featuring arias from operas by Johann Mattheson, including “Boris Goudenow.”
