Christman Opera Company to Stream 2nd Annual Haiti Children Benefit Concert

By Logan Martell

On September 25, 2020, Christman Opera Company will hold its annual benefit concert, titled “An Evening of Music.”

Proceeds will go towards supporting the nonprofit organization HaitiChildren in efforts to bring shelter, food, and education to impoverished children in the island nation.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the concert will be held virtually through Zoom. The program will feature mezzo-soprano Madison Marie McIntosh, who will be accompanied by Gregory Ritchey on the piano. The duo will perform a selection of arias from operas such as “Carmen,” “The Barber of Seville,” and “Juliet’s Devotion,” a micro-opera by Theodore Christman.

The suggested donation for viewers is $25, and patrons are asked to make it out to “An Evening of Music.”

HaitiChildren was founded in 1994 by Susie Krabacher, and its programs benefit over 1,500 children who have been orphaned or abandoned. Krabacher’s story is being made into a musical by Christman, titled “Unfolded.” Excerpts of the upcoming work were performed by McIntosh at last year’s benefit concert.
