Christman Opera Company to Present ‘The Impresario and the Dueling Divas’

By Logan Martell

On Jan. 29, 2021, Christman Opera Company is set to present the newest work from composer Theodore Christman, titled “The Impresario and the Dueling Divas.”

The cast includes soprano Teresa Castillo as Heidi Highmore, mezzo-soprano Madison Marie McIntosh as Lola Lowell, and tenor John Viscardi as Derek Schaus; pianist Eve Queler provides the previously recorded accompaniment.

The opera is based on “Der Schauspieldierktor” and tells the story of two artists engaged in a battle for the role of Arianna in a new opera.

This one-act opera will be performed over Zoom, and will be available to watch for free at this link.

Over the last few months, the Christman Opera Company has been shining a light on works by underrepresented composers through their Voices Raising Voices initiative, partnering them with artists on their roster to create and share performances. Previous recordings can be found on the company’s YouTube page. The company is currently accepting submissions from composers and pianists who are women, LGBT+, and/or BIPOC.
