Christine Goerke, Lise Davidsen & Klaus Florian Vogt Highlight Bayreuth Festival’s 2021 Season

The Bayreuth Festival has announced programming for the 2021 season.

The season will open with “Die Fliegende Hollander” with Oksana Lyniv becoming the first woman conductor to lead an opera at the festival. Dmitri Tcherniakov directs the new production, which will star Eric Cutler, Georg Zeppenfeld, Asmik Grigorian, and Marina Prudenskaya.

Performance Dates: July 25 – August 20, 2021

The festival will present a revival of “Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg.” Philippe Jordan conducts Barrie Kosky’s production starring Michael Volle, Klaus Florian Vogt, Daniel Behle, Günther Groissböck, Camilla Nylund, and Johannes Martin Kränzle.

Performance Dates: July 26 – August 24, 2021

Stephen Gould is set to reprise his “Tannhäuser” in Tobias Kratzer’s production. Axel Kober conducts a cast that also includes Lise Davidsen, Ekaterina Gubanova, and  Günther Groissböck.

Performance Dates: July 27 – August 23, 2021

“Die Walküre” will be directed by Hermann Nitsch under the baton of Pietari Inkinen. The cast will include Lise Davidsen, Iréne Theorin, Klaus Florian Vogt, Dmitry Belosselskiy, and Günther Groissböck.

Performance Dates: July 29-August 19, 2021

Christian Thielemann will conduct a concert performance of “Parsifal” starring Stephen Gould, Michael Volle, Günther Groissböck, and Petra Lang.

Performance Dates: August 10, 2021

Andris Nelsons will conduct two concerts featuring Christine Goerke, Günther Groissböck, and Klaus Florian Vogt. The first concert will feature excerpts from “Parsifal,” and Lohengrin as well as the first act of “Die Walküre.” The second concert will include excerpts from “Die Walküre” and the immolation scene from “Gotterdammerung.”
