The Boston Symphony is set to present Korngold’s “Die Tote Stadt.”
The orchestra will present the work in collaboration with Boston Lyric Opera on Jan. 30 and Feb 1, 2025.
The performance reflects Nelson’s tenure with the BSO in his tenth anniversary season, building on a legacy of stellar opera performances that have included critically acclaimed concert versions of Strauss’s “Der Rosenkavalier,” Puccini’s “Suor Angelica,” Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and Shostakovich’s “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk,” among others.
The upcoming performances of Korngold’s masterpiece will mark the first time that the BSO performs “Die tote Stadt” and the first time that Nelsons has conducted it.
The performances will showcase soprano Christine Goerke in her role debut, tenor Brandon Jovanovich, baritone Elliot Madore, and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. The Boston Lyric Opera Chorus and the Boys of the St. Paul’s Choir School will also join the performance.
