Christine Goerke & Jane Eaglen Headline Pittsburgh Festival Opera’s 2020 Season
By David SalazarThe Pittsburgh Festival Opera has unveiled its 2020 season which will include several operas, concerts, a poetry reading, and lectures.
It all kicks off with the Gather of the Goddesses Gala Concert at the Playhouse at Pont Park University. The concert will feature Marianne Cornetti, Alexandra Loutsion, and Christine Goerke.
Performance Date: June 20, 2020
“Pagliacci” will take the stage at the CAPA Theater with Carl Tanner, Danielle Pastin, Stephen Gaertner, and Xiaomeng Zhang. Chuck Hudson directs while Christian Capocaccia conducts.
Performance Dates: July 11-19, 2020
The world premiere “Virgula Divina,” a chamber opera by Karen Brown and Jessica Lanay, will feature Anqwenique, Courtney Porter, and Edward Washington II. Ellen Jackson directs and Michelle Rofrano conducts.
Performance Dates: July 18-26, 2020
“Lysistrata” takes place at the Ace Hotel Pittsburgh. The cast will be made up of members of the 2020 Young Artist Program. Robert Frankenberry conducts and Derrick R. Brown directs.
Performance Dates: July 22 & 23, 2020
Kevin Ray, Robert Chafin, Alex Boyd, Rlisabeth Rosenberg, Jane Eaglen, Andrew Potter, and Alexa Zeremenko headline a concert that of highlights from “Siegfried” and “Götterdämmerung.” Jane Eaglen directs with Walter Morales conducting.
Performance Date: July 24, 2020
“Rusalka: A Mermaid’s Tale,” a children’s opera based on the famed Dvorak and Kvapil work, gets a series of performances with Adrianna Cleveland, Alexa Zeremenko, Kevin Adamik, and Wilson Toliver. Agnieszka Sornek accompanies at the piano.
Performance Dates: July 11-25, 2020
There will also be a Young Artists Program Concert, “The Drowning Boy’s Guide to Water,” a conversation with Marianne Cornetti and Jane Eaglen, and “Daphne… These Days.”
