Christine Goerke, Jamie Barton & Jennifer Johnson Cano Lead St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s 2020-21 Season

The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2020-21 season featuring modern classics, famed artists, and choral works.

Here is a look at the vocal highlights of the season.

Stéphane Denève conducts Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with Tamara Mumford as the soloist and the Women of the St. Louis Symphony Chorus and the St. Louis Children’s Choirs.

Performance Dates: Oct. 16 & 17, 2020

Gaëlle Arquez joins conductor Stéphane Denève for a program that includes music by John Adams, Berlioz, Saint-Saëns, Bizet, R. Strauss, and Schmitt.

Performance Dates: Nov. 13 & 14, 2020

Honegger’s “Joan of Arc at the Stake” gets concert performances with Stéphane Denève conducting the St. Louis Symphony Chorus and the St. Louis Children’s Choirs

Performance Dates: Nov. 20 & 21, 2020

Schubert’s Symphony No. 8, “Unfinished” crowns a program of love and loss with mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton performing  Chausson’s “Poem of Love and the Sea.” The program also includes Jake Heggie’s “The Work at Hand” with cellist Elizabeth Chung. Coductor Cristian Măcelaru leads the concert.

Performance Dates: Dec. 5 & 6, 2020

The St. Louis Symphony celebrates the holiday season with IN UNISON Chorus performing Gospel renditions of holiday favorites.

Performance Dates: Dec. 10, 2020

Karina Canellakis conducts Jennifer Johnson Cano in a program that includes Brahms’ “Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny),” “Nänie,” and Alto Rhapsody and Lutoslawski’s Concerto for Orchestra. The concert will also showcase the St. Louis Symphony Chorus.

Performance Dates: Feb. 13 & 14, 2021

The SLSO and IN UNISON Chorus celebrate African American culture through reflective and soulful music.

Performance Dates: Feb. 19, 2021

Stéphane Denève conducts Siobhan Stagg in Poulenc’s Stabat Mater. The concert will also include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and Poulenc’s Final Scene from “Dialogues of the Carmelite.”

Performance Dates: March 26-28, 2021

Stéphane Denève conducts the St. Louis Symphony IN UNISON Chorus in Florence Price’s Symphony No. 3. The program also includes Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8.

Performance Dates: April 30 & May 1, 2021

The season ends with a concert performance of Puccini’s “Turandot” starring Christine Goerke in the title role, Jonathan Burton as Calaf, Janai Brugger as Liù and David Leigh as Timur. Stéphane Denève conducts.

Performance Dates: May 6 & 8, 2021
