Christine Goerke Among Headliners of AuditionAir’s Fundraiser

Michigan-based nonprofit AuditionAir will host a fundraising event on April 23, 2026 at Art Leaders Gallery in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

The event will feature live performances by Grammy Award-winning soprano Christine Goerke, Ingrid Kuribayashi, and Jake Surzyn.

Founded by Jeremy Zeltzer, AuditionAir is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to funding airfare for emerging performers who have secured auditions but lack the financial means to attend them. In its inaugural year, the organization funded flights for seven emerging artists, all members of the Florida Grand Opera Studio, enabling them to attend high-level auditions across the country. The organization now aims to support up to 30 artists in the 2026–2027 season.

Goerke, who also serves as Artistic Producer of the Classic Opera Series at Music Hall and Professor of Voice at the University of Michigan School of Theater, Music and Dance, sits on AuditionAir’s board alongside figures affiliated with Detroit Opera, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Detroit Institute of Arts.

“Too many gifted artists never make it into the room,” said Zeltzer per an official press release. “A single audition can change a life. We exist to make sure artists can say yes when opportunity calls.”

The April 23 fundraiser will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and will also include a silent auction, cocktails, and a “fund-a-flight” giving opportunity allowing attendees to directly sponsor an artist’s travel. Funds raised will go toward airfare grants, expanded outreach to underserved performers, and program administration.

Artists who have benefitted from the organization’s programs include Levi Adkins, Catherin Meza, James A. Mancuso, Victoria Lawal, and Kendra Faith Beasley.
