Famed conductor Christian Thielemann has revealed that he will conduct a production of Wagner’s iconic “Der Ring des Nibelungen” at the Teatro alla Scala in 2024.

The conductor told the Austrian Kurier in an interview, “My calendar is now almost fully booked up to and including 2027. Among other things, I will work on a ‘Ring’ production at La Scala in Milan starting in 2024.”

The news comes after the Saxon state government decided not to extend Thielemann’s contract as the Chief Conductor of the Semperoper Dresden. “In retrospect, the decision turned out to be an initial spark for new projects,” added Thielemann.

Thielemann is currently Chief Conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden and Artistic Director of the Salzburg Easter Festival. He is scheduled to conduct Verdi’s “Aida” at the Semperoper Dresden in March and July 2022, and Wagner’s “Lohengrin” at the Osterfestspiele Salzburg in April 2022.
