Christian Gerhaher Withdraws from Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’

The Metropolitan Opera has announced that Christian Gerhaher has canceled his Met debut as the Count in “Le Nozze di Figaro.”

According to the Met, the baritone has been canceled due to a non-Covid-related illness.

As a result, Adam Plachetka will sing the role of the Count from Jan. 8 through Jan. 28. The baritone previously performed the role at the Met in 2019 and also sang the role of Figaro in 2016 and 2020. He has also performed in productions of “Così fan tutte,” “Don Giovanni,” and “L’Elisir d’Amore.” This season he is also set to perform Garibaldo in Rodelinda” at the Met later this season.

Plachekta joins a cast that includes Golda Schultz, Lucy Crowe, Isabel Leonard, Elizabeth Bishop, Giuseppe Filianoti, Ryan McKinny, and Maurizio Muraro. Daniele Rustioni conducts.
