Christian Gerhaher, Rachel Harnisch, Ramón Vargas & Marina Viotti Highlight Stadtcasino Basel 2020-21 Season

Stadtcasino Basel has announced its 2020-21 season. For the purpose of this article we will focus only on the vocal works.

Here is the full rundown.

Baritone Christian Gerhaher will perform works by Schoeck, Moser, and Schubert.  Heinz Holliger conducts the Kammerorchester Basel.

Performance date: August 23, 2020

Soprano Christina Landshamer will present the program that includes works by Beethoven, Satie, Debussy, Richard Strauss, Mendelssohn, and Dvořák. Ivor Bolton conducts the Sinfonieorchester Basel.

Performance date: August 26, 2020

Soprano Rachel Harnisch, alt Marie-Claude Chappuis, tenor Mauro Peter, and baritone Dietrich Henschel will perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. Additionally, the overture to Mozart’s opera “Die Zauberflöte” will be performed. Christian Knüsel conducts the Neues Orchester Basel.

Performance date: September 2, 2020

Countertenor Franco Fagioli will sing Mozart arias. Additionally, Kraus’ Symphony in F, VB 145 will be performed. Daniel Bard will play the violin.

Performance date: October 12, 2020

Soprano Rachel Harnisch and mezzo-soprano Marina Viotti will present songs and duets by Johannes Brahms. Jan Schultsz will be at the piano.

Performance date: December 1, 2020

Soprano Christina Landshamer, tenor Mauro Peter, and bass-baritone Florian Boesch will perform “Die Schöpfung, Hob. XXI:2” by Joseph Haydn. Ivor Bolton conducts La Cetra Vokalensemble.

Performance dates: December 2-3, 2020

Soprano Simone Kermes will present a program that includes works by Boccherini, Vinci,  Bononcini, Hasse, Vivaldi, Albinoni, Caldara, and more. Arrangement by Jarkko Riihimäki.

Performance date: December 20, 2020

Grosse Oper Polen, under the musical direction of Marcin Wolniewski, will perform Verdi arias for the The Big Giuseppe Verdi Gala evening.

Performance date: December 29, 2020

Countertenor Jake Arditti will perform a program that includes works by Paredes and Sciarrino. Additionally, the Streichquartett No. 5  by Hans Werner Henze will be performed. Irvine Arditti and Ashot Sarkissian will play the violin, Ralf Ehlers will play the viola, and Lucas Fels will play the cello.

Performance date: January 19, 2021

Soprano Rachel Nicholls, alt Wiebke Lehmkuhl, tenor Daniel Frank, and bass-baritone Derek Welton will perform the Third Act of Wagner’s opera “Siegfried.” Sir Mark Elder conducts.

Performance date: January 21, 2020

Soprano Christina Landshamer will present a program that is yet to be announced. Ivor Bolton conducts.

Performance date: February 17, 2021

Mezzo-soprano Solenn’ Lavanant Linke will perform songs by Berg, Mahler, Respighi, and Rave. Todd Camburn will be at the piano.

Performance date: March 9, 2021

Soprano Svetlana Aksenova, mezzo-soprano Dilara Baştar, tenor Ramón Vargas, and bass Rubén Amoretti will perform Verdi’s “Messa da Requiem.” Facundo Agudin conducts.

Performance date: April 2, 2021

Finally, soprano Katja Stuber and baritone Benjamin Appl will present a program that includes works by Saint-Saëns and Fauré. Additionally, Hefti’s Concerto for the Two Trumpets and Large Orchestra will be performed. Ivor Bolton conducts.
