Christian Gerhaher, Anja Kampe, Magdalena Kožená Headline 2020 Aix-en-Provence Festival

The Festival Aix-en-Provence has just announced the program for 2020 season, which will include  a total of six works.

The season will open with Berg’s opera “Wozzeck,” starring Christian Gerhaher, Anja Kampe, Daniel Brenna, Peter Hoare, Brindley Sherratt, Evan LeRoy Johnson, J’Nai Bridges, Alexander Kiechle, Tomasz Kumięga, and Graham Clark. Sir Simon Rattle will conduct the production by Simon McBurney.

Performance dates: June 30, July 3, 7, 10 & 13, 2020, GRAND THÉÂTRE DE PROVENCE

Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” will star Véronique Gens, Claudia Mahnke, Richard Croft, Russel Braun, Georg Nigl, and Nicole Chevalier. Thomas Hengelbrock is set to conduct the production by Dmitri Tcherniakov.

“The Golden Cockerel” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov will star Dmitry Ulyanov, Sabine Devieilhe, Andrei Popov, Huw Montague Rendall, Oleksiy Palchykov, Mischa Schelomianski, Margarita Nekrasova, Michael John Harper, and Anna Denisova. Aziz Shokhakimov is signed on to conduct the production by Barrie Kosky.

Performance dates: July 2, 4, 7, 9, 11 & 14, 2020, THÉÂTRE DE L’ARCHEVÊCHÉ

Monteverdi’s opera “L’Incoronazione di Poppea” will be performed by Jacquelyn Stucker, Jake Arditti, Fleur Barron, Paul-Antoine Bénos- Djian, Alex Rosen, Miles Mykkanen, Maya Kherani, Julie Roset, and Laurence Kilsby. Leonardo García Alarcón will conduct the production by Ted Huffman.

Performance dates: July 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 & 18, 2020, THÉÂTRE DU JEU DE PAUME

The company will present the world premiere of Saariaho’s opera “Innocence” with a cast that includes Jukka Rasilainen, Magdalena Kožená, Anna Prohaska, Markus Nykänen, Tuomas Pursio, Sandrine Piau, Lucy Shelton, Vilma Jää, Beate Mordal, Julie Hega, Simon Kluth, Camilo Delgado Díaz, and Marina Dumont. Susanna Mälkki is set to conduct the production by Simon Stone.

Performance dates: July 4, 8, 11 & 14, 2020, GRAND THÉÂTRE DE PROVENCE

Finally, a staged concert version of Monteverdi’s opera “Orfeo” will star Valerio Contaldo, Mariana Flores, Giuseppina Bridelli, Anna Reinhold, Nicholas Scott, Alessandro Giangrande, Carlo Vistoli, Matteo Bellotto, Salvatore Vitale, and Alejandro Meerapfel. Leonardo García Alarcón will conduct.
