Christabel Nunoo, Michael Mayes Among Stars of Opera Parallèle’s 2020-21 Season

Opera Parallèle has unveiled its 2020-21 season, which will feature a mix of live and virtual performances.

First up will be the “No Boundaries” virtual gala honoring the Horizons Foundation. The showcase will feature performances by Christabel Nunoo and Michael Mayes. There will also be a performance of a “graphic novel” opera by Joby Talbot and Gene Scheer, starring Nikola Printz and Nathan Granner.

Streaming Date: Oct. 8, 2020

The company will launch into live performances with a new production of Philip Glass’ “La Belle et la Bête.” The opera will star Rachel Schultz and Hadleigh Adams in the starring roles. Other cast members include Philip Skinner and Sabrina Romero-Wilson.

Performance Dates: May 20-22, 2021

The company will present the West Coast Premiere of “Sophia’s Forest,” an opera by Lembit Beecher and Hannah Moscovitch. The work will star Maggie Finnegan, Erin Enriquez, Allegra Kelly, Kindra Scharich, and Sidney Outlaw.

Performance Dates: June 17-20, 2021

Additionally, the company will publicly workshop “Harriet’s Spirit,” an opera by Marcus Shelby and Roma Olvera. The work is inspired by the life of Harriet Tubman and is set to premiere in 2021-22. The cast features Christabel Nunoo and Tiffany Austin.
