Choralspace to Headline Concerts in Berlin & Prague

By David Salazar

Choralspace will present the World Choir at the Konzerthaus Berlin on Nov. 1 and the “Songs of Europe” gala concert at Smetana Hall in Prague on Nov. 21.

The World Choir, which began as a digital choir during the pandemic and has since become a project choir, will gather in Berlin for four days of rehearsals.

It will perform a matinee in the Konzerthaus Berlin’s main hall with the Kammersymphonie Berlin, led by Tori Longdon and Jamie Wright. The program also includes excerpts from Fauré’s “Requiem” and works by J.S. Bach, Eric Whitacre, Anton Bruckner, Elaine Hagenberg and Christopher Tin.

Choralspace is presenting the concert as the guest performance of a partner organization.

“Songs of Europe” marks the first time Choralspace has taken the festival outside Germany. The Prague gala will bring together 350 singers under conductor Oliver Rudin, with choreography by Daniel Raaflaub.

The program centers on individual contributions from participating choirs: Siparantum (Kosovo); Belcanto (Norway); Jazz’n’Oldies, the Rheinische Sängerknaben and The Willows (Germany); the Mixed Choir of the Municipal Music School of Dionysos (Greece); the Radost Praha Girls Choir and Pueri Gaudentes Boys Choir (Czech Republic); and MILA (Israel).

The Choralspace Festival Choir will also perform under Rudin. A “Night of Choirs” is scheduled for Nov. 20, ahead of the gala.
