Chicago Symphony Orchestra Announces Cast Change for ‘Missa Solemnis’

By Francisco Salazar

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has announced a cast change for its Beethoven “Missa Solemnis.”

The orchestra announced that Kyle Ketelsen will replace Ildar Abdrazakov and will join a cast that includes Erin Morley, Alisa Kolosova, and Giovanni Sala. Riccardo Muti conducts.

This is the latest cancelation for the Russian bass who recently canceled concerts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra due to family reasons. The bass also canceled a concert for the 2023-24 season at Carnegie Hall. However, no reason was given for that cancelation.

The bass has lately been under scrutiny for his closeness to the Kremlin during the war. He was caught on video celebrating New Year’s with the Defense Minister of Russia and has allegedly been paid for several concerts considered propaganda.

Abdrazakov still has concerts lined up with the Monte-Carlo Opera in April. He will also perform at the Bayerische Staatsoper which famously severed its ties with Anna Netrebko and Valery Gergiev.
