Chicago Opera Theater to Stream ‘La Hija de Rappaccini’

By Francisco Salazar

The Chicago Opera Theater has announced an update to its digital production slated for April 24, 2021.

The company announced that instead of the previously announced Daniel Catán’s “Il Postino,” COT will perform the Chicago premiere of “La Hija de Rappaccini,” also by Catán.

The staged Spanish-language opera will feature native Spanish speakers in principal roles and will be directed by Crystal Manich. The opera will be conducted by Enrico Lopez-Yañez, who is making his company debut.

“La Hija de Rappaccini” will be live-streamed from the Field Museum, world-renowned for its work in the natural sciences, and the stunning hanging gardens in the main hall will be lowered to create the setting for this tale of botanical experimentation.

Audiences can see the opera on April 24 on the Chicago Opera Theater’s streaming platform.
