The Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra is set to present a Benefit concert in support of Ukraine.

The showcase, which will take place at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church on April 9, 2022, will feature music by Ukrainian composers including Mykola Lysenko, Myroslav Skoryk and Seman Hulak-Artemovsky.

The showcase will also feature such works as Samuel Barber “Adagio for Strings,” Edward Elgar’s “Nimrod” from “The Enigma Variations” and “Va Pensiero” from Verdi’s “Nabucco.” The performance will also include members of the Chicago Lyric Opera Chorus.

“Inspired by the bravery and strength of those who are under attack, the musicians of the Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” Preman Tilson, principal bassoonist of the ensemble explained in an official statement.

All proceeds raised by the performance will be sent to support newly arrived Ukrainian children enrolling in St. Nicholas Cathedral School; they will also be used to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
