Cheltenham Music Festival Unveils 2022 Season

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be solely on vocal and operatic performances.
The ”Festival Evensong” will feature the Cheltenham College Chapel Choir under David McKee. The showcase will feature music by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Herbert Howells.
Performance Date: July 8, 2022
Contralto Hilary Summers and pianist Andrew West will perform “What’s So Great About Opera?” They will present music by Bizet, Puccini, Mozart, and Purcell, among others.

Soprano Juliet Fraser and the Talea Ensemble will team up for Laura Bowler’s “Distance.”
Performance Date: July 10, 2022
Mezzo-soprano Helen Charlston and pianist Kunal Lahiry will perform music by Benjamin Britten, Madeleine Dring Gustav Mahler, Olivier Messiaen, Henry Purcell, and Judith Weir.

The Tenebrae Choir and conductor Nigel Short will present music by Roderick Williams, Philip Moore, Josephine Stephenson, Rudolf Mauersberger, and Francis Poulenc.

Soprano Anna Dennis and The English Concert will perform music by Händel and Bononcini. Tom Foster conducts.
Performance Date: July 15, 2022
Soprano Lucy Crowe and pianist Anna Tilbrook will present a program of music by Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, Felix Mendelssohn, Alban Berg, and William Walton.

Wild Plum Arts and Musicians from Psappha will present music by Mitchell, Claire Victoria Roberts, and Odetta. Vocalists will be announced at a later date.

Adrian Partington will lead the British Sinfonietta, South Cotswold Big Sing Group, and Choristers of Gloucester Cathedral in a performance of Mahler’s 8th Symphony. Soloists include Gweneth Ann Rand, Katherine Broderick, Robyn Allegra Parton, Claire Barnett-Jones, Hilary Summers, Thomas Elwin, Benedict Nelson, and James Platt.
