By Francisco Salazar

On Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, the Chelsea Opera will present the New York City premiere of “Josephine” and “After Life,” two one-act operas by Tom Cipullo.

The performance, set to be performed at the Christ & St. Stephen’s Church, will star Melissa Wimbish as Josephine, Jennifer Beattie as Gertrude Stein, Sara Paar as Young Girl, and Steven Eddy as Picasso.

“Josephine,” tells the story of entertainer and activist Josephine Baker who grants an interview in her dressing room shortly before her last triumphant appearance. Meanwhile, “After Life” showcases Gertrude Stein and Pablo Picasso back from the hereafter to debate their legacies as well as their activities in WWII Paris.

The Chelsea Opera is celebrating its 15th season and is known for presenting fully staged operas with chamber orchestra, a concert series, and other musical endeavors.
