
Chelsea Opera Group to Showcase Lalo’s ‘Le Roi d’Ys’
By David SalazarChelsea Opera Group is set to present Lalo’s “Le Roy d’Ys” on March 30, 2025, at Cadogan Hall in London.
The performance, which commences at 6:30 p.m. local time, will feature Thomas D. Hopkinson in the title role alongside Maria Schellenberg, Hye-Youn Lee, Alexey Gusev, Luis Gomes, Ross Cumming, and Edward Jowle. Paul Wingfield conducts the performance.
The presentation will be preceded by a talk led by musicologist, performer, composer, and music editor Dr. Bruno Bower.
Lalo’s opera in three acts is based on the old Breton legend of the drowned city of Ys and focuses on the story of Margaret, the daughter of the king, and her betrayal of the kingdom due to spurned love and jealousy. It had its premiere in 1888.
