Chelsea Opera Group to Present Pizzetti Opera This March

Chelsea Opera Group has announced that it will present Idlebrando Pizzetti’s “Murder in the Cathedral” on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at Queen Elizabeth Hall.

The opera, which features a libretto by the composer, will feature Sir John Tomlinson in the role of Archbishop Thomas Becket, in addition to Marc le Brocq, Christopher Turner, Matthew Durkan, Emyr Wyn Jones, David Ireland, Eleanor Dennis, and Harriet Williams. Martyn Brabbins conducts the performance which will feature the Chelsea Opera Group chorus in addition to members of Pegasus and the Epiphoni Consort.

Audience members will also get a chance to hear a pre-performance talk by Bruno  Bower.

“Murder in the Cathedral” will be presented in English. The opera had its world premiere at La Scala in 1958.

In addition to “Murder in the Cathedral,” the company will present “Roberto Devereux,” as well as “Sir John in Love” and “The Wreckers” throughout 2020 and 2021.
