Chelsea Opera Group to Present ‘Oprichnik’ Starring Seljan Nasibli, Emma Stannard, & Stephen Richardson

London’s Chelsea Opera Group is set to present Tchaikovsky‘s rarely performed “Oprichnik.

The romantic tragedy follows the original setting of 16th-century Moscow during the reign of Tsar Ivan the Terrible and features his oprichniki (bodyguards). James Ham will conduct Yvonne Howard,  Stephen Richardson, Brian Smith Walters, Seljan Nasibli, Aidan Smith, Emma Stannard, and Elinor Rolfe Johnson.

The performance will be sung in Russian with English supertitles.

Musicologist Bruno Bower will give a pre-performance talk beginning at 5:45 pm, followed by a 7 pm performance on March 11 at Cadogan Hall.
