Chelsea Factory to Revive Malena Dayen & David Rosenmeyer’s ‘luzAzul’ This October

By David Salazar

Chelsea Factory is bringing back Malena Dayen and David Rosenmeyer’s “luzAzul” for a series of performances this October.

The opera for babies ages 0 -24 months, will return on Oct. 5, 2023 with a total of nine performances running through Oct. 7, 2023.

The production opened back in June at the Chelsea Factory. At the time of the premiere, Dayen told OperaWire that the work was inspired by her “experience as a songwriter in Carnegie Hall’s Lullaby Project, which connects mothers and babies through the creation of song” and that this project will be a continuation of her work ”making opera with interactive media, extending this experience into arts for very young audiences and further exploring how performance can be a space for mothers/caregivers to make music alongside babies and find ways to connect, play and express themselves musically.”

“luzAzul” will feature Samarie Alicea, Eugenia Forteza, and Sam Ogilvie.

Part of the production team for the opera are choreographer Troy Ogilvie and tech designer Sangmin Chae.
