Charles Castronovo Takes Over ‘Les Pêcheurs de Perles’ at Staatsoper Berlin

By Dejan Vukosavljevic

The Staatsoper unter der Linden has announced that tenor Charles Castronovo will take over the singing part of the role of Nadir in a performance of Bizet’s “Les Pêcheurs de Perles,” replacing tenor Pavol Breslik.

Breslik will still appear onstage, acting the role of Nadir.

Castronovo will join a cast that includes Olga Peretyatko, Alfredo Daza and Paul Gay. Victorien Vanoosten will conduct the production by Wim Wenders.

Castronovo recently performed the role of Gabriele Adorno in Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” at the Salzburg Festival, alongside Marina Rebeka. The tenor is slated to perform the role of Don José in Bizet’s “Carmen” at the Opéra National de Paris in November 2020, and at the Wiener Staatsoper in February 2021.
