Charles Castronovo, Elsa Dreisig, Maria Bengtsson, Lawrence Brownlee, Aleksandra Kurzak Headline 2023-24 Season at Grand Théâtre Genève

The Grand Théâtre Genève has announced its 2023-24 season.

First up is “Don Carlo” in a production by Lydia Steier starring Charles Castronovo, Leonardo Capalbo, Dmitry Ulyanov, Rachel Willis-Sørensen, Stéphane Degout, and Êve-Maud Hubeaux. Marc Minkowski conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 15 – 28, 2023

 Lea Desandre, Ana María Labin, Ana Vieira Leite, Hugh Cutting, Kresimir Spicer, Moritz Kallenberg, and Renato Dolcini star in “Ariodante.” William Christie conducts Les Arts Florissants.

Performance Date:  Oct. 5, 2023

Daniele Finzi Pasca will direct “Maria de Buenos Aires” with Facundo Agudin conducting. The tango operita will star Raquel Camarinha, Inés Cuello, Melissa Vettore, and Beatrix Sayard.

Performance Dates: Oct. 27 – Nov. 5, 2023

Christoph Waltz directs “Der Rosenkavalier.” The cast stars Maria Bengtsson, Michèle Losier, Matthew Rose, Bo Skovhus, Mélissa Petit, and Omar Mancini.

Performance Dates: Dec. 13 – 26, 2023

Hector Parra’s “Justice” stars Peter Tantsits, Idunnu Münch, Katarina Bradic, Willard White, Simon Shibambu, and Serge Kakudji. Titus Engel conducts a production directed by Milo Rau.

Performance Dates: Jan. 22 – 28, 2024

Leonardo García Alarcón conducts “Idomeneo” and a cast that stars Stanislas de Barbeyrac, Lea Desandre, Federica Lombardi, Giulia Semenzato, Omar Mancini, Luca Bernard, and William Meinert. Sidi Lardi Cherkaoui directs.

Performance Dates: Feb. 21 – March 2, 2024

Messiaen’s “St. François d’Assiste” will get a production by Abel Abdessemed. Jonathan Nott conducts a cast starring Robin Adams, Claire de Sévigné, Ales Briscein, Kartal Karagedik, and Jason Bridges, among others.

Performance Dates: April 11 – 18, 2024

“Roberto Devereux” will star Edgardo Rocha, Mert Süngü, Elsa Dreisig, Ekaterina Bakanova, Stéphanie d’Oustrc, Aya Wakizono, and Nicola Alaimo. Stefano Montanari conducts a production by Mariame Clément.

Performance Dates: May 31 – June 30, 2024

The company will also put on the other two operas in “The Tudor Trilogy,” both revivals of the productions by Mariame Clément. “Anna Bolena will star Alex Esposito, Elsa Dreisig, Ekaterina Bakanov, Stéphanie d’Oustrac, and Edgardo Rocha. Stefano Montanari conducts.

Concerts

Lawrence Brownlee and Levy Sekgapane will perform alongside pianist Giulio Zappa. The recital features music by Donizetti, Rossini, Bellini, and Verdi.
