Chamber Orchestra of the Springs to Present ‘The Knock’

By David Salazar

The Chamber Orchestra of the Springs will showcase the Colorado Springs premiere of “The Knock” on Nov. 23, 2025 at Lewis Palmer High School.

The new opera, commissioned under the expansive Opera 2030 Initiative, focuses on untold, intimate stories of military spouses who, when they receive “the knock,” discover that heroism often comes with profound personal cost.

The work is composed by Aleksandra Vrebalov and set to a libretto by Deborah Brevoort, and is presented in partnership with Opera Theatre of the Rockies and Art Song Colorado

“The Knock is an opera that explores the resilience, vulnerability, and sacrifice of the families of those who serve our country. Named for the expression that military spouses use for notifications of death, the opera is based on real stories from spouses of American soldiers and is set on Colorado Springs’ Fort Carson,” said an official promotion for the opera.
