Chamber Orchestra of Europe Finds Replacement for Sir. John Eliot Gardiner Concert

By Francisco Salazar

The Chamber Orchestra of Europe has announced a replacement for Sir. John Eliot Gardiner on Sept. 16, 2023.

The orchestra said, “We are very happy and grateful that conductor Maxim Emelyanychev will be joining us on 16 September at Schloss Esterhazy to replace Sir John Eliot Gardiner who has canceled all his concerts for the rest of the year. We look forward to our first performance with Maxim!”

Emelyanychev will conduct soprano Lucy Crowe in a concert that includes Haydn’s Symphony No. 90, excerpts from Weber’s “Oberon and “Der Freischütz” and Schubert’s Symphony No. 3.

The news comes days after Gardiner canceled the rest of his 2023 schedule after he assaulted bass William Thomas at the Berlioz Festival. He noted that he wanted to take some time to reflect on his actions and was “determined to learn from hs mistakes.”
