Chamber Music Society To Present ‘Seven Last Words’ Featuring Ryan Speedo Green

By Nicole Kuchta

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will present Seven Last Words at Alice Tully Hall, featuring bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green.

Green, who, according to the press release, recently appeared on CBS 60 Minutes “to tell the story of his rise from juvenile delinquent to the stage of the Metropolitan Opera,” will perform Bach’s Cantata “Ich habe genug,” BWV 82 (1727) and Haydn’s “The Seven Last Words of Our Savior on the Cross” for String Quartet, Op. 51 (1786). He will be joined by harpsichordist Paolo Bordingnon, the Orion String Quartet, bassist Timothy Cobb, and oboist Stephen Taylor.

The concert will be preceded by a lecture led by Michael Parloff at the Daniel and Joanna S. Rose Studio. Parloff will “explore the history of [“The Seven Last Words”] and the ways that Haydn’s ‘wordless oratorio’ illuminates the meaning of Christ’s final words.”

The performance will be held on March 31, 2019.
