Celebrity Series of Boston Announces Winter 2022 Concerts

The Celebrity Series of Boston has announced its line-up for the winter of 2022. The series will run from Jan. 26 until March 27, 2022.

For the purpose of this article, we will focus on vocal works only.

Making their Celebrity Series debut by opening the concert series is bass-baritone Dashon Burton and pianist Lindsay Garritson. The headlining concert will be a live-streamed performance on Jan. 19 at 8 pm and will be available to view until Jan. 26. The duo will present “a uniquely American program.” The set includes “Across five chapters”—”The Shoulders of Giants,” “Black Like Me: Songs of the Diaspora,” “The Makers,” “Langston and the Masters,” and “The Modern.” Also presented are works by John Jacob Niles, Kurt Weill, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Paul Bowles, Margaret Bonds, William Grant Still, Marques L. A. Garrett, and Moses Hogan.

The next virtual concert features baritone Benjamin Appl and pianist James Baillieu performing Schubert’s “Winterreise” on Jan. 26 at 8pm. The performance will be on-demand Jan. 26- Feb. 1.

Soprano Susanna Phillips, pianist Myra Huang, and clarinetist Anthony McGill will perform at GBH Calderwood Studio (1 Guest Street, Boston) on March 13 at 3 pm. Their program includes Schubert’s “The Shepherd on the Rock,” James Lee III’s “Chavah’s Daughters Speak,” William Grant Still’s “Romance,” and Schubert’s Sonata in A minor, D. 821 “Arpeggione.” This performance also has a streaming option on March 13-19.

As of Jan. 15, the Celebrity Series has updated its Covid policies. Now all ticket holders over the age of 12 must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19. Negative test results will no longer be accepted. Masks must be worn at all times during live performances.
