Cecilia Violetta López to Present ‘Mariposa Que Vuela’ at Opera Southwest

By David Salazar

Opera Southwest is set to present “Mariposa Que Vuela” on Sept. 23, 2023.

The showcase, which kicks off at 6 p.m. local time, will feature soprano Cecilia Violetta López as she presents a “recital autobiográfico” that features mariachi, ranchera, and opera classics. She will be joined by pianist Nate Salazar and musicians from the Mariachi Amigos de Nuevo Mexico.

“This is my life’s story, told with music and images from my childhood to the present day. It shows the audience the two musical worlds I am straddling, from where I started, working in the field with my mother, to the world of opera,” said López in an official press statement issued by the company.

López, who has made Albuquerque her home, made her debut with the company back in 2020 and is set to return this coming season in a production of “Carmen.”
