Cecilia Violetta López, Kirsten Chambers, Kyaunnee Richardson, SeungHyeon Baek Headline Opera Orlando’s 2021-22 Season

Opera Orlando has announced its 2021-22 season, which will celebrate iconic composer Giuseppe Verdi.

The company will kick things off with a production of “La Traviata” conducted Stephanie Rhodes Russell in her company debut. Cecilia Violetta López will take on the title role alongside Victor Ryan Robertson as Alfredo. Grant Preisser will direct the opera.

Performance Dates: Oct. 29 & 31, 2021

 The company will premiere its first commissioned new work “The Secret River.” The opera by Mark Campbell and Stella Sung will star Kyaunnee Richardson, Benjamin Taylor, NaGuanda Nobles, Kimberly Martin, and Emily Pulley. Dennis Whitehead Darling will direct the piece, which will be conducted by Everett McCorvey.

Performance Dates: Dec. 17-19, 2021

The season will come to a close with a production of “Rigoletto” starring SeungHyeon Baek, Won Whi Choi, and Jessica E. Jones. Katheleen Belcher will direct a production conducted by Gregory Buchalter.

Performance Dates: April 22 & 24, 2022

Concerts & Recitals 

The company will also present a Summer Concert Series starting with a performance featuring Cecilia López and pianist Nathaniel Salazar.

Performance Date: August 15, 2021

Tenor Victor Ryan Robinson and pianist Ammon Perry will team up for their own recital.

Performance Date: August 21, 2021

Finally, Kirsten Chambers and Keith Chambers will perform in a recital together.

Performance Date: August 29, 2021.

The company will also present its annual “Viva l’Opera!” Gala at The Alfond Inn.

Performance Date: Sept. 11, 2021 

The company will also present a site-specific production of Verdi’s “Un Giorno di Regno” at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando.

Performance Date: March 4 & 6, 2022 

Finally, Thomas Albert and Lindé Hayen Herman’s “Lizbeth” will be presented.

Performance Date: May 20 & 22, 2022
