
Cecilia Molinari, Philipp Jekal Stepping into ‘Il Barbiere di Siviglia’ Performances at Deutsche Oper Berlin

Per the Deutsche Oper Berlin’s official website, there will be several cast changes for its upcoming production of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia.”
For the presentation of the Rossini gem on March 5, Philipp Jekal will take on the title role from Samuel Dale Johnson. For the performances on April 25 and 29, Cecilia Molinari will replace Vasilisa Berzhanskaya in the role of Rosina, thus giving her House debut. They will join the cast that includes Matthew Newlin, Matthew Cossack, Aviva Fortunata, Byung Gil Kim, and Padraic Rowan.
Berzhanskaya is still set to perform the role of Rosina for the performances on February 28 and March 5. The role of Dr. Bartolo for performances on April 25 and April 29 still needs to be determined. Biagio Pizzuti will perform the role for performances on February 28 and March 5.
Cecilia Molinari has recently performed the role of Angelina in “La Cenerentola” at De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, Cherubino in “Le Nozze di Figaro” at Palau de les Arts Valencia, and the title role in Rossini’s “Tancredi” at the Teatro Petruzzeli Bari, among others.
Daniel Carter will conduct the production by Katharina Thalbach on February 28 and March 5. For the performances of April 25 and April 29, Matteo Beltrami will take over the musical direction, thus making his House debut.
